INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY CELEBRATION


A One-day Seminar on New Hopes of New Women.

To inspire the modern learners, the Women Cell of Andhra Loyola College organized a One-day Seminar on New Hopes of New Women. Ms RaaviSarada, Secretary of A. P Library Association, Dr K S L Sruthi, Managing Director, Tamma Vinod Reddy’s Sruthi Hospital, Pamaru and Ms Lalitha Manisha, Dollu artiste were the guest speakers. Ms RaaviSarada motivated the students to inculcate the habit of reading and also hinted on the free access libraries in digital era. She told reading maketh the real man or woman. Dr K S L Sruthi bridged the gap between illusion and reality through examples from her journey as a medical student and as a medical practitioner. Ms Lalitha Manisha shared her memories as a virtuoso. She mesmerised the students with her enthralling performance. The management of Andhra Loyola College also felicitated Mrs Kalavathi who is the mother of Final year B.A Student, Mr Sai Kiran who won APSCHE Award 2021. In spite of her being a single mother, she could bring up Sai Kiran to the level of achieving a State level Award. Ms Yasaswini, the second year B.Sc Visual Communication student was also felicitated for being indefatigable and shouldering the family responsibilities at a very young age due to family plight.  They stood as examples despite the hurdles in their personal life. The students of I year, II year and Women faculty attended the programme. Dr Lanke.Subha, Coordinator Women Cell coordinated the entire programme.

“GENDER EQUALITY – SOUL OF LIBERTY”- A TWO DAY WORKSHOP

 To empower girl students about their rights and duties, Andhra Loyola College in Collaboration with SAFE (Step Ahead for Equality) organised a Two Day workshop on “GENDER EQUALITY – SOUL OF LIBERTY” on 18th and 19th January 2023. The workshop was inaugurated by Rev.Fr.K.Anil Kumar, SJ and Dr.PVS Sai Ram, Vice Principal of II year UG. They stressed the importance of workshops in shaping an individual’s career. Dr.Suryadevara Kalpana, Principal, SDM Siddhartha Mahila Kalasala and standing committee member, SAFE was the resource person. Madam spoke on the age-old beliefs which are deep rooted in the society making women suffer from meaningless traditions. She quoted many examples from various incidents that we come across in real life or in newspapers. She emphasised on the importance of women’s role in the society and added that there is no society in the world without men and women in co-existence. She also urged the girls to be bold, strong and firm in portraying their self. On the second day, Dr.Koneru Anuradha, Assistant Professor, SMT VD Siddhartha Law College, Kanuru focused on Women rights and responsibilities highlighting the key role every girl child has to play in every walk of her life. She focused on the position of women from Pre-Vedic period to Modern period. She gave a crystal clear picture of a women’s journey from “Womb to Tomb”. She spoke at length on the reasons for violence against women and also motivated them to recognise their power and fight for their rights. Ms.Radha Kumari, Advocate, High court, Krishna District Child Welfare Committee member gave inputs on the Constitutional Protections. Ms. G. Jyostna, President, SAFE, Ms.G.Vani, Secretary spoke on various issues related to women, and exhorted that it is high time they face the challenges and stand up for their rights. Many girl students put forth their issues which were sought for solution. More than 400 girl students and faculty members from various departments were present in the session.

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP-ANDHRA LOYOLA COLLEGE (AUTONOMOUS),22.10.2022 11.00AM-12:50PM

Andhra Loyola College (Autonomous) in collaboration  with Magic Youth conducted a guest lecture on “Women Empowerment and Entrepreneurship”

As said by Michelle Obama, “There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish”. To embed these thoughts in the students, especially women, that one is limitless, Women Cell in collaboration with Magic Youth conducted a guest lecture on “Women Empowerment and Entrepreneurship” .Fr.Bala encouraged the crowd to take the best out of the knowledge and experience shared by the guest speaker. The President of Rotary club, Dr. Nagaraju shared about the services done by Rotary Club. The guest speaker, Dr.Nagarani, MD, IMIS Pharmaceuticals, Vijayawada shared her experiences and the obstacles she faced throughout her journey and the 5 lessons she learnt in life. The first lesson being “Strong intention”, the second “Never give up in failure”, the third “Clarity and Direction of goal”, the fourth “Learning expands ones thinking and horizons” and the last one being “Belief in oneself”. She further expressed her love towards learning and how listening and staying calm is her key to success.  She ended her speech by quoting the words “What failure teaches you cannot be taught by success”. The event was closed with a formal vote of thanks by Mercy Joy from student council. The whole event was hosted by head girl, Sharon Shaju, and volunteered by leads of magic youth.

SAFE TEAM ANDHRA LOYOLA COLLEGE- INAUGURATION-SIDDHARTHA AUDITORIUM, MOGALRAJPURAM-21.10.2022 2.00-5.30PM

 "A woman’s progress is the progress of the nation”. To empower, educate the young girls and boys SAFE TEAM was formed in our college with 10 students from different streams.  The formal inauguration function of SAFE team was held in Siddhartha College, and our students and staff attended the function. The chief guests for the programme were Sri.S.Dilli Rao IAS, NTR District, Ms.K.G.VSarita, Superintendent of Police, Women Protection Cell and Dr.Dr.T.VijayaLakshmi, Director SDMSMK. They emphasised that each woman should respect the other and men should be aware of women rights. Each woman should strive hard to reshape the next generation and provide a SAFE and SECURE environment for them. Each girl and boy should assimilate the objective of SAFE team and encourage the students to walk towards the society of SAY NO TO GENDER.

AWARENESS PROGRAMME-ANDHRA LOYOLA COLLEGE (AUTONOMOUS), 28.09.2022, 11.50AM-1.30PM

 Time is what determines security. With enough time nothing is unhackable. As every invention has both positive and negative effects on layman. Technology is a boon and bane for every individual. Among the vulnerable groups, the most affected are the women. To create awareness and ensure that every girl student is conscious of the careful and cautious use of the mobile phone, not creating any problems due to them, the Women Cell of Andhra Loyola College organized a Guest Lecture on ‘Creating Awareness on Hacking to Protect Young Girls’ at the Old Seminar Hall. Mr Uday Kiran, An Alumnus of the host institution was the resource person. Mr Kiran gave a crystal-clear idea on how phones can be hacked and the young girls can be threatened. He told the girl students about the different types of hacking and the hacking methods with some examples. He told that technical knowledge and awareness of general things related to the usage of electronic gadgets is a must for every individual. He concentrated on making the students identify the forthcoming dangers associated if their mobiles being hacked. He also suggested the students not to use public Wi-Fi or charging modes, not to open unwanted messages and cautioned them to be aware of some websites used by the hackers.  Rev. Fr. Lourduraj, SJ, Rev. Fr. Anil Kumar, SJ, Rev. Fr. Y.T. Prabhu, SJ Vice-principals of Undergraduate courses also emphasized that technology should never hinder the progress of an individual. Dr Lanke Subha, Women Cell Coordinator, Dr Mamata. Dean of Student Affairs, Student Coordinators coordinated the entire programme. More than 180 II-year girl students from various disciplines participated in the programme.

DHEERA - VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN" - Guest Lecture- ANDHRA LOYOLA COLLEGE(AUTONOMOUS)in collaboration with the FEDERATION OF OBSTETRIC AND GYNECOLOGICAL SOCIETIES OF INDIA, 23.09.2022 11.00-1.00PM

 The Women Cell of Andhra Loyola College in collaboration with the Federation of Obstetric and Gynecological societies of India organized a guest lecture on " Dheera - Violence against Women" at the Old Seminar Hall. Dr Gowthami Dumpala, Consultant Obstetrician and gynecologist, Smile Multispeciality Hospital, Vijayawada, Dr Padmaja Veeramachaneni, IVF Specialist, Padmaja Clinic, Vijayawada, Dr Sailaja Nalluri, Treasurer, Vijayawada Obstetric and gynaecological society were the resource persons. Dr Sailaja Nalluri focused on the atrocities against women related to gender-based and gender-biased. She explained how pathetic it is to kill a baby in the mother’s womb itself if it is revealed that she is a girl baby. She quoted many examples from Vedas and Puranas to show how women proved themselves as great warriors and administrators. She urged women not to be tolerant and silent but be expressive and communicative in raising their voice and protecting them from honour killings, sexual assaults, emotional abuses, cyber bullying, stalking or any other violence which affects their life. Dr Gowthami Dumpala spoke on the role of the active bystanders which is very crucial in protecting women against violence. She gave a crystal-clear view about the apps, universal signals and phone numbers that women should be aware of in case of any impending danger. She exhorted the young students to educate the society and build a safe environment for the future generations. Dr Padmaja Veeramachaneni concentrated on the topic bridging gender divide peer pressure. She expressed that the society or the family should not dictate any race but urge them to live with dignity, decency and discipline. She explained at length about the common problems faced by the teenagers and the curriculum should also be designed to give them an idea regarding the issues related to women and preventive measures. Rev. Fr. Dr. G.A.P. Kishore, Principal, Rev. Fr. Bujji Babu, Controller of Examinations in their opening remarks told the students that it is the need of every individual who is a part of this society to respect and regard that women are not simply the part of the society, they are the major part of this society. More than 200 students and women faculty members participated in the session.

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN EQUALITY DAY- ANDHRA LOYOLA COLLEGE (AUTONOMOUS), VIJAYAWADA-24.08.2022 10.00-2.00PM

ELOCUTION AND DEBATE COMPETITIONS ORGANISED IN COLLABORATION WITH SAFE(STEP AHEAD FOR EQUALITY) 

As Audre Lorde says, "I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own”, to make women self-governing and self-regulating on the eve of International Women’s Day, SAFE, Step Ahead for Equality organized various programmes to sensitize youth on women empowerment. As a part of the programme, SAFE conducted elocution and debate on various themes related to women’s empowerment. More than 100 students from various Technical, Law and Degree Colleges participated in the mega event. The students expressed their views on the themes related to Dowry, Women’s Education, Atrocities against Women, Teenagers and so on exploring an innovative and inspiring world that the future generations need to strongly set up. Regarding the topic related to limitations and constraints for women, many students raised their voice giving real life examples of the women who proved themselves despite the agony and anguish they had to overcome in their personal or professional life. Rev. Fr. Lourduraj, SJ, Vice-principal, Ms Jyotsna, President, SAFE, Ms Vani, Secretary, SAFE, Guest of Honour, Dr Sr Candy D Cunha, Associate Professor, Andhra Institute of Engineering and Technology motivated the students with their compendious and crisp speeches. The entire programme was organized under the supervision of Dr Lanke Subha, Department of English. Faculty members of various departments, Judges from various colleges and Volunteers actively participated in the event.
